About Food City

Homegrown in El Paso, TX

Food City was born from the El Paso community, to serve the El Paso community. Our tale began over fifty years ago in 1964, when José Santos opened his first store, El Rancho Mart, on South Stanton Street.  He soon outgrew that store and opened our flagship store, Food City, on Alameda Avenue in 1972. At first, Food City shared this location with the Aaronson Brothers department store called “Big Star.”  But it didn’t take long for Mr. Santos to realize that this space wouldn’t be enough. El Paso was growing fast, and the secret got out that Food City had good eats at better prices.

El Paso’s young, new supermarket soon grew up, expanding into the entire building on Alameda.  Shortly after, Food City expanded into two other locations: one farther west on Alameda, and the other farther east on Hunter and Gateway East. Food City was one of the first retailers in the region to use electronic scanning registers in the 1970’s. Today, Food City continues to enhance your shopping experience with current technology.  Make sure you check out this week's Weekend Specials, like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, and most importantly, allow us to connect with you in person!
